Monique DeAvilla – Head Instructor
Aerial Skills, Lyric Hoop, Conditioning

I’m 24 years old, and I am from Barrington, IL. I started dancing when I was 5 years old, doing a little bit of everything including: Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Lyrical, Modern, Competitive Jazz, and Acro Tumbling. That tumbling class introduced me to the gymnastics world and I fell in love! I started competitive gymnastics around age 9 and competed through level 7, until I joined my Barrington High School’s team my freshman year. High school team was tough but I worked my way from the freshman team, to JV, to JV captain, and finally to Varsity my senior year. For me, like many, going to college was kind of scary! I wanted to stay active, I wanted to meet people, and I wanted to try something new! I found that the Gamma Phi Circus at Illinois State University was the perfect fit for me! I did everything from German Wheel to Multi Trapeze! I was able to perform for thousands of people doing acts such as: Aerial silks, Aerial Lyric Hoop, Tumbling, and my personal favorite, High Wire! This organization is first and foremost a leadership program; myself and fellow peers would teach skills and choreograph acts with one another. We’d create the costumes, the props, every little piece that was needed to put on an incredible show year after year. I graduated last year and more than anything miss being in the gym working with people who love being active! Whether it’s dance, gymnastics, or even circus arts, I am super excited to help others accomplish new feats and have a blast at the same time! I can’t wait to get started here at Fire House!
